Fractional CTO

Senior technology leadership for startups that need it now, without the full-time hire.

For foundersSeed to Series B

You're building a company, not an engineering org.

I own architecture, the hiring bar and the technical roadmap a few days a month, or hold the whole seat when your CTO leaves, so your engineers build the right things and your board gets straight answers. You hire me, I work for you.

Start with one question:

Need someone to think with?

Technical Advisory

2 sessions a month

You already have a technical leader. I'm the second opinion on architecture, hiring and org decisions, and I'll sit in on senior interviews.

Need someone to own it?

Fractional CTO

~1 day a week

Engineers but no senior technical leader. I own strategy, architecture and the hiring bar.

Interim CTO

3 days a week

The seat is empty. I hold it, and recruit my permanent replacement.

Start with an Engineering Assessment: one question, four weeks, a fixed fee and a written answer with a 30/60/90 plan.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much does a fractional CTO cost?

Technical advisory is $5,000 a month, a fractional CTO retainer $10,000 a month, and an interim CTO $30,000 a month. Fixed-scope work: an engineering assessment is $20,000 and technical due diligence $35,000.

What does a fractional CTO actually do?

The same job as a full-time CTO, on a part-time schedule: owns architecture decisions, sets the hiring bar, shapes the technical roadmap, and is the senior escalation point for engineers and the CEO.

Fractional or interim CTO: what's the difference?

A fractional CTO owns technical direction part-time alongside your existing team. An interim CTO holds the entire seat, usually after a departure, until a permanent hire lands.

What stage companies do you work with?

Mostly seed, Series A and Series B: a real team and product, but no senior technical leader yet. Non-technical founders are some of my best fits.

How do you work with investors?

Through technical due diligence: two weeks from data room access, a $35,000 fixed fee, and no stake in whether the deal closes. It's a separate engagement from my work with companies. Whoever hires me is my client.

How fast can you start?

Advisory and assessments usually start within two weeks. Interim work depends on what I'm already holding.

Do you sign NDAs?

Yes, happy to sign one before you share anything sensitive.

Let's talk.
